FLOWTRON ® EXCEL
DVT PROPHYLAXIS SYSTEM

Why Use The Flowtron Excel System?

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a potentially life threatening condition. It is estimated that there are 15-20000 deaths from pulmonary embolism a year in the UK.

Because of the silent nature of this disease, many cases are not detected until a fatal pulmonary embolism occurs. Prevention is the key in the reduction of DVT prevalence, as prophylaxis has been shown to minimise the frequency of thromboembolism and also reduce hospital costs per patient. There are many clinical factors that - put patients at risk for developing DVT. Because this disease occurs across a wide range of medical conditions, early identification of those patients at risk coupled with appropriate prophylaxis will greatly improve patient outcomes. The FlowtronExcel system provides an effective solution to reduce the incidence of DVT.

Intermittent Compression Therapy

DVT Prophylaxis

The Flowtron Excel DVT Prophylaxis System, supported by wide ranging patient research, is an effective method of reducing the risk of DVT.

The Huntleigh Flowpress System can be used to treat/manage a range of lymphatic conditions both in the hospital and at home.

The unique Console® foot section allows both visual and tactile inspection to be carried out throughout the care of the patient.

RISK LEVEL BY PATIENT GROUP

Based on the clinical data, this table indicates the degree of risk among specific patient groups.

FLOWTRON EXCEL OPERATING PRINCIPLE

The Flowtron® Excel non-invasive, mechanical, prophylactic system is for reducing the incidence of DVT. The application of external pneumatic compression has two effects:

bullet

Augments venous blood flow velocity, thereby reducing stasis.

bullet

Enhances fibrinolytic activity to reduce the risk of early clot formation.

The Flowtron® Excel system consists of a pump and a pair of calf or thigh length single patient use garments. The pump provides intermittent cycles of compressed air which alternately inflate the single-chambered garments. The compression applied on the extremity augments venous blood flow velocity and stimulates fibrinolysis. The pump operates on a 60-second automatically timed cycle consisting of approximately 12 seconds of inflation followed by approximately 48 seconds of deflation.

Additional Flowtron Products for Orthopaedic and Other Use

Huntleigh's expertise in IPC therapy has allowed the company to design a range of Flowtron products to meet the critical demands of today's healthcare environment. Each Flowtron Plus, Flowpac and Flowpress pump can be matched with a range of garments to treat a variety of conditions, including lymphoedema, oedema, contractuies, arthritic conditions and fixed flexion deformities.

Garments gently help straighten fixed flexion limbs in a controlled manner while the safe 'milking' action of the intermittent inflation/deflation cycle of the Flowpress garment can be used in the successful management of lymphoedema.

After three decades of pioneering work, Huntleigh is well placed to provide quality, refined products which have been carefully tailored and clinically proven to meet tlie exacting demands of the healthcare marketplace.
