Background Huntleigh Healthcare Ltd, based at Luton, Bedfordshire, is one of 19 operating divisions of Huntleigh Technology Group, a premier-class healthcare manufacturer providing a comprehensive range of medical equipment to over 80 countries world-wide. Each subsidiary, including Huntleigh Healthcare, is responsible for the design, manufacture and distribution of the equipment, instrumentation and control systems they produce. An on-going emphasis on research & development and improved manufacture means that, as a whole, the Huntleigh Group offers one of the most comprehensive ranges of medical equipment available to the hospital and community nursing homes market world- wide. History In 1968, Rolf Schild, now Chairman of Huntleigh Technology Group, established Flowtronaire Ltd. to pioneer the development of Intermittent Compression technology. After thirty years, Intermittent Compression therapy is still at the core of Huntleigh Healthcare's business and the company's Flowtron range of products can be found in hospitals and healthcare centres throughout the world. From its modem 100,000sq ft manufacturing base at Luton, new research and development continues the company's tradition of innovation with highly specialised teams utilising the most advanced computer- aided design and simulation tools for work in plastics, pneumatics, electronics and medical signal processing. Rigorous testing of products for patient comfort, performance and durability ensure the highest quality in all Huntleigh products. Regional Service Centres Huntleigh Healthcare operates ten fully equipped regional service centres throughout the UK -with an additional centre opened in Dublin last year. Each centre is staffed by nurse advisors and service engineers who provide full service support to customers. This national coverage allows Huntleigh to operate an extensive sales and rental programme for medical equipment. The rental service provides a 24 hour, 365 days a year, personally answered help line service to ensure essential day and night cover for hospitals and the community. The salesforce carries the full range of pressure area care products and operates in the hospital, community and home care markets. Huntleigh promotes an educational sales approach and works closely with many nursing and commercial organisations to provide educational materials, workshops, and study days. World Markets Wholly-owned Huntleigh subsidiaries exist in the USA, Germany, France, Benelux, Denmark and Australia which, together with the company's experienced export team, liaise with a network of distributors and agents across the world. While consolidating its major export markets, Huntleigh has also led the way in forging relationships in the new markets of Eastern Europe as well as in the Commonwealth of Independent States. In 1991, Huntleigh agreed a technology transfer with the City of Moscow and this success is forming a basis for further technology transfers in the area. It is Huntleigh's ability to identify new export opportunities and to react quickly to local needs that has enabled the company to be granted the Queen's Award for Export Achievement on three occasions. |
