Advantages

The Ross Turnslide is particularly helpful when turning a patient from side to side, since it is easy to position and reduces the friction under both hips and shoulders.

Positioning

When the patient is laying on the side insert Ross Turnslide underneath the patient's hip and shoulder so that s/he is lying half on it. Before commencing the transfer, tilt the patient slightly so that the full weight of the body is pressing against the mat. It is helpful if you can place the Ross Turnslide under a sheet or a draw sheet, enabling a firm grip and gentle handling. To remove the Ross Turnslide pull the lower part and allow it to slide forward, taking advantage of the smooth inner side. When doing this, you should hold one hand against the patient so the patient remains stationary.
